Remote Possibilities with CCTV Posted on September 15, 2000 DUMAC has been involved in CCTV systems for about 4 years now. One area that has always presented a problem was a customer with multiple sites - either next door or remote. Many customers that have their business in one building and their offices in another building ("next door") want to remotely monitor the business next door. In the past, it was cumbersome to connect the buildings via cable since the cable had metal in it and was subject to lightening hits during the summer. The "next door" situation was solved recently by installing Fiber Optic cable between buildings. The images are crystal clear, real time, and not subject to lightening. The "remote" situation was resolved by using a new product provided by Netergy Networks, Inc. (www.netergynet.com). DUMAC has provided the original Netergy Networks product in the past allowing a customer with many remote locations to connect via modem to the CCTV system in each remote location and see what's going on. It works well but a CCTV system at the viewing (host) site is needed. Netergy Networks just improved that with the release of "RSM-PC Monitoring Software." With RSM-PC Monitoring Software a PC or laptop can be used and the connection made via modem (as before), but you view the site through each camera remotely onto the PC screen - from your office, business trips or on vacation. You can either view the site live, take "snapshots" of certain situa-tions, freeze images, or pan/tilt/zoom as supported at your location. |
