BASS MerchaNT™

BASS MerchaNT™, a groundbreaking new Microsoft Windows® NT-based back office system, provides retailers the full-featured, graphical user interface (GUI) applications they need to efficiently run their stores. Everyday activities – POS maintenance, store receiving, reporting, and much more – become easier and less time-consuming.

MerchaNT is designed for progressive retailers in need of a full-featured Windows-based system that is rich with both options and solutions. Constructed in a modular format, various dynamic applications are available, including:

Item Maintenance

Since pricing and receiving data is integrated together within MerchaNT, you can now maintain complete information on every item in the store within a single database.

Through Item Maintenance you have the ability to look up item information in both grid and form views (more on this below), and perform free-form, dynamic searches for specific item attributes. You can view information on screens with layouts customized to the user and to the function. Plus, when completing item maintenance, you can apply changes immediately to the POS or create a batch for future application.

Users have two different options for viewing and changing data… the Item Form View and the Item Grid View. Through the Item Form, you can quickly obtain access to specific groups of fields (e.g., those relating to inventory or movement) within an item record via preset tabs. In this mode, the bottom half of the screen displays the selected information, while the top half remains constant, displaying commonly used indexes. Functional and easy to use, the Item Form makes it a snap to navigate through item records. The Item Grid allows for easy mass maintenance to multiple item records at once. The grid displays item information in organized rows and columns (one item per row, with individual fields making up the columns), allowing large amounts of data to be viewed and updated simultaneously. You can customize the grids to fit your unique retail needs, and even save them for re-use during future maintenance.

MerchaNT also gives you the quickest and easiest way to find item information – via the Build Query option. With this utility, you can perform a search based on selected criteria, significantly reducing the amount of time needed to retrieve information normally. The query utility saves you considerable time while granting easy access to the data you need. The searches can also be saved for future access. In addition, retrieved data can also be filtered further or sorted by specific criteria.

Item Maintenance tasks are much easier to perform and more intuitive, thanks to graphical icons, drop-down menus, selection boxes and user-friendly help screens.

MerchaNT puts critical information at your fingertips by allowing you to access, view and edit product data from virtually any combination of fields and selection criteria with just a few clicks of the mouse button.

Comprehensive Reporting

Completely developed on an open database design, MerchaNT provides comprehensive reporting capability, coupled with the ease-of-use associated with the Windows platform. As a true client/server system, multiple MerchaNT clients may access data on the server simultaneously, giving store employees access to the information they need when they need it.

MerchaNT offers a wide selection of flexible reports that enable you to make informed merchandising decisions based on current data. Versatile and customizable, reports can be arranged by UPC number, order (warehouse) number, department number, aisle location, and much more. Reports available include:

  • Item File Reports
  • Financial Reports (NCR 2127 POS Only)
  • Supplier Reports
  • Receiving Reports

Your reports and maintenance records can be exported in many formats (including ASCII, Excel spreadsheet, dBase, HTML, etc.) for use in other applications. Easy to create and use, reports can even be run automatically through MerchaNT's scheduler (control string) function.

Control Strings (Automated Tasks and Reports)

As a retailer, you have no doubt suffered through long waits for reports to run. And who hasn't forgotten to run a movement report on a few occasions? These are just some of the tasks that can now be handled automatically.

MerchaNT lets you schedule routine system functions (e.g. applying batches, initiating movement updates and printing reports) to automatically occur at dates and times you preset. This allows you to direct your focus on other important tasks throughout the day.

Through Control String Management, the system automatically performs any number of tasks, including movement processing, item file and financial report generation, and batch application at specific times on specific days. For example, schedule a MerchaNT Control String to run an Inventory Report at the same time every day. You can then rest assured that when you are ready to review the report, it will be available. You may even schedule activities to occur overnight without human intervention so that everything is ready the next morning. Best yet, Control Strings are very easy to set up. Schedule your tasks by using simple point and click menus and drop-down boxes.

Multi-Tasking

Retailers need the ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously. MerchaNT's Windows NT architecture is specifically designed to help you cope with the complexity of running your day-to-day business activities.

Imagine an employee using a handheld FM terminal to verify prices in the aisles, while another makes price changes on the PC. Meanwhile, vendors' goods are received at the loading dock and the produce manager is running a department sales report. Now all these tasks can be performed at the same time with MerchaNT… efficiently, easily and accurately. For retailers, the end results include significant time savings in tackling routine store procedures.

Since the RBX backoffice solution was introduced, it has been kept on the leading edge of in-store systems technology through the addition of functions and features, enhancements to system performance and adherence to the principles of "integration by design." File Exchange w/ SIL Interface - file sharing utility, provides flexible data import/exporting capabilities.
